A Comparative Study on Reporting Verbs in ELT Research Article Introductions by Indonesian Authors

The study of reporting verbs (RVs) is rarely done by Indonesian scholars. Therefore, this research aimed to investigate how writers used the RVs in article introductions published low-ranking and medium-ranking ELT journals investigating differences usage them both groups journals. This a quantitative approach with comparative design that investigated 40 (SINTA 6: Journal English Language Education, SINTA 5: Literacy Education) 4: Education Teaching, 3: Forum: Teaching) 2021. data were taken using purposive sampling technique they analyzed RVs’ framework Francis et al. (1996). results revealed all introductions, but most frequent was “argue verb”. Moreover, more “find think verbs”. Meanwhile, “the argue show verbs” often These findings indicate importance writing for field language teaching. are suggested use “Argue Verbs, followed “Find Shows Verbs” when introductions.
